Meet Andy
Krystal Gemma
With Gingerbread Season well & truly underway in Sunshine Valley, Villagers can be found building Gingerbread houses, cosplaying as Gingerbread people & enjoying all the festive merriment of the season! As the year draws to a close we're busy preparing the final update this year, we've taken time to sneak away to introduce our next team member in this months' Meet The Team feature. πβ¨
Today we're giving you a peek behind the technical curtain here at Netspeak Games as we meet Andy...
π Who are you and what do you do?
I am Andy! Iβm a Principal Engineer at Netspeak Games. I work on all the different technical aspects of Sunshine Days, ranging from the UI, to nitty gritty low-level networking logic, to gameplay systems.
β²οΈ Whatβs a routine day like for you Andy?
On a typical day I start at 9am. I wake up and have breakfast. During breakfast I do the daily wordle and mini-crossword, finish my daily duolingo lessons and then read through tech and psychology news (I am also a coach and psychology lover)! After breakfast, I start my work computer and read through Slack and any Pull Requests from the previous day.
At 10:30am, we have our company-wide standup followed by our own tech-team standup and our coworking space. During our standup and coworking we discuss the things that we are working on as a team, pair on any potential issues that need debugging, and generally catch up on how we are all doing!
Coworking normally lasts till lunch, after which I might have one or two meetings in the afternoon. The rest of the time, I am either writing design documents, coding, helping others, or investigating issues.
After work I am normally at the climbing gym or at the karate dojo!
π» What sorts of tools do you use?
As a company, we use Google Meets for meetings and Slack for chat.
For our tech-stack we use Git for version control, Rider / GoLand for development and of course Unreal Engine!
βοΈ What makes Netspeak a special place to work?
Netspeak is a really special place to work at. Everybody is always very supportive and friendly, and I feel appreciated for who I am. I feel very comfortable and at home here. π
π What have you done recently that youβre proud of?
I am very proud of the revamp of the furniture system which I worked on last year. It has allowed us to build a lot of very fun features for players and I love all the awesome designs that players have been able to come up with! It has been extremely inspiring to see the amazing amounts of creativity our players have.
π€ Out of all the tasks you do, which one do you enjoy the most?
I love mentoring others. It brings me a lot of joy seeing others grow and I love being able to help them on that journey.π
